BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – As the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s (PWVT) Bakersfield Buck Off at Mechanics Bank Arena concluded on Saturday night, California’s own Aaron Williams (Pismo Beach, California) secured the first PWVT event win of his career.

In Round 1 of the night, Williams was paired with Candy (Crown 7 Bucking Bulls), but judges awarded the Pismo Beach cowboy a re-ride after his initial out.

Williams was then paired with Fred (Evan Matthews), firing out of the chutes for an impressive 87.5 points, marking the highest ride score of the night.

As the extraordinary animal athletes of the PBR showcased their supreme agility throughout the championship round, the 25-year-old California cowboy was no match against Ghost of Oscar (Leffew Bucking Bulls / Meza).

For his 1-for-2 night, Williams netted 108 Velocity Global points.

Fellow Californian Ray Mayo (Clearlake, California) was hot on Williams’s heels on Saturday night, capturing second place overall –  a mere 1.5 points behind in the aggregate.

Mayo was paired with Misunderstood (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls) in Round 1, collecting 86 points for his smooth ride.

He then set his sights on the championship round where, to the California crowd’s dismay, Long Haul (Evan Matthews) dispatched Mayo after just 3.13 seconds.

Mayo collected 68 Velocity Global points for his 1-for-2 effort.

Nebraskan Connor Halverson’s (Gordon, Nebraska) Round 1 matchup was less than ideal as his bovine opponent Sriracha (Diamond Bar Cattle / Hunter Aue) flung him to the dirt after 6.22 seconds.

The 20-year-old then sought redemption as he conquered Black Jack (Corey & Lange Rodeo) in the championship round for 82.5 points.

Halverson earned 64 Velocity Global points for his third-place finish.

Zane Cook (Fort Gibson, Oklahoma) earned a qualified ride aboard Pearl Pistol (Walking lazy J Bull Team) for a 77.5-point score in the opening round. Despite an early departure from his bovine matchup Cut a Rug (Humpz and Hornz) after just 2.18 seconds in the championship round, Cook secured a fourth-place finish.

The Oklahoma cowboy earned 30 Velocity Global Points in Bakersfield.

Trent Nugent (Kirbyville, Texas) battled it out to finish within the Top 5 at the Bakersfield Buck Off.

With a determined look, Nugent launched from the chutes in Round 1 aboard Hawaiian Cricket (Pasillas Cattle Co) for 67.5 points.

The championship round did not go as planned for the Texan as Regulator (Humpz and Hornz / Frances Dandy) bested him after 7.95 seconds.

His efforts netted him 25 Velocity Global points.

The talented bull riders of the PWVT will next head to Reading, Pennsylvania, for the PBR Boot Barn Reading Invitational at Santander Arena on Feb. 10-11.
