PUEBLO, Colo. – Cody Jesus went 2-for-2 to pick up the victory at the Yavapai Bottle Gas Mile High PBR, presented by Coors Light & Najavo Nation, Touring Pro Division event on Saturday night in Prescott Valley, Arizona.
Jesus won the long round on Saturday night by riding Pey Pey’s Dreamfor 88.5 points before capping off his second TPD victory in three weeks by riding Rack City Dreamin for 86 points in the championship round.
The 22-year-old has been rounding back into full shape this month after returning to competition in February following a one-year hiatus. Jesus originally struggled in his return to the PBR, going 1-for-6 on the Unleash The Beast before he won the TPD event in Ivins, Utah. Jesus is 7-for-12, including a 10th-place finish at the Unleash The Beast event in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with two TPD wins in April.
Jesus, the No. 37-ranked rider in the world standings, will not be competing at this coming weekend’s PBR Union Home Mortgage Invitational in Omaha, Nebraska, though, because of a hip injury.
Meanwhile, 2019 National High School Rodeo Association bull riding champion Caden Bunch had quite the impressive PBR debut. Bunch, who turned 18 on March 14, went 4-for-4 on his two entries in Prescott Valley for a second and fifth-place finish.
Bunch’s performance was highlighted by an 87-point ride on Let’s Play Clay to win the championship round on Saturday night. Bunch is the younger brother of 2018 PBR World Finals qualifier Cannon Cravens, and he has been mentored by 2006 PBR World Finals event winner L.J. Jenkins.
Hunter Kelly (2-for-2, 168.5 points) and Dakota Louis (2-for-2, 167.5 points) finished third and fourth and were the only other riders to be a perfect 2-for-2.
Louis will turn his focus back to the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour on Friday and Saturday night when he sets foot inside American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, for the Buc Days PBR Chute Out, presented by Coastal Bend Chevy Dealers.
