FORT WORTH, Texas – As the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Challenger Series residency in Fort Worth, Texas, rode on Sunday afternoon inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum, no rider was more dominant than Colten Fritzlan (Rifle, Colorado). As the lone rider to go a perfect 2-for-2, Fritzlan won his career-first Challenger Series event, victorious at the PBR Sunday at Cowtown.

In Round 1, the first-round draft pick for the Missouri Thunder was quick to strike, surging to the top of the leaderboard after riding Buckle Up (Mason Bucking Bulls) for 86.5 points.

Fritzlan then faced Money Maker (Mason Bucking Bulls) as the last man slated to leave the chutes. As the raucous crowd watched on, Fritzlan reached the requisite 8 for an event-best 89 points to clinch the victory.

For his winning effort, Fritzlan earned 44 Challenger Series points.

Oklahoma Freedom’s Deklan Garland (Foster, Oklahoma) was second, collecting 24 Challenger Series points.

Despite being bucked off by Life Flight (Twisted Horns Cattle Co.) in 3.58 seconds in Round 1, Garland was quick to rebound, covering Smooth Steel (Baker/Foutch Bucking Bulls) for 87.5 points in the final round.

Alecio Ferreira da Costa (Bom Conselho, Brazil) was third compliments of his 86.5-point ride on Redline (D4 Cattle Co.) in the championship round.

Costa left the historic Western sports venue having earned 13 Challenger Series points.

Continuing his resurgent summer campaign, the Kansas City Outlaws’ Cole Melancon (Sour Lake, Texas) was fourth, garnering 10 Challenger Series points.

Melancon went 1-for-2, conquering Cotton Stinger (D4 Cattle Co.) for 86 points in Round 1.

The Texas native, however, fell short of the event win when he was dispatched by Oreo (Twisted Horns Cattle Co.) in 2.48 seconds in the final round.

Rounding out the Top 5 and tying for fifth were Brazil’s Flavio Zivieri and Adriano Salgado (Batatais, Brazil), each earning 6 Challenger Series points.

The duo of riders delivered matching 84-point rides in Round 1, as Zivieri bested Torsades de Blu (Damn Skippy Ranch & Partners) and Salgado outlasted Read Between The Lines (Drill Em in the Dirt).

In the bull pen, Moonshine (J.C. Knapp Rodeo Co.) was crowned the Bull of the Event.

Bucking in Round 1, the powerful animal athlete registered an event-best 45-point score when he bucked off 2002 PBR World Champion Ednei Caminhas (Indaiatuba, Brazil) in 2.04 seconds.

The PBR Challenger Series residency at Cowtown Coliseum continues Sunday, July 17. Action gets underway at 2 p.m. CT.
