FORT WORTH, Tex. – In mid-December, WCRA (World Champions Rodeo Alliance) will bring world-class rodeo back to Texas with the four-day Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo in Fort Worth at the legendary Cowtown Coliseum Dec. 15-18.
The landmark event will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 15, showcasing more than 200 athletes competing in each of the nine rodeo disciplines: bareback riding, women’s breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping heading, team roping heeling, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. A collective $360,000 will be on the line, and each champion will be awarded a check for $12,500.
“This is the most diverse collection of athletes the rodeo industry has ever seen,” said WCRA President, Bobby Mote. “From schoolteachers, to ministers, to retired Las Vegas trick riders and athletes returning from the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, our base of athletes is larger than any one rodeo organization in the world.”
The Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo will be the final of three Major events comprising the 2021 WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo. The WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo is a trilogy of Major rodeos offering a $1 million bonus to any one athlete or collection of athletes who win first place in any three consecutive majors. The first stop of the 2021 series was held in Corpus Christi, Texas followed by an event in Salt Lake City.
Those athletes who were victorious in Salt Lake City at the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo, who will be looking for their second win to remain Triple Crown eligible are: Clayton Biglow (Bareback Riding), Tanner Green (Team Roping- Header), Tyler Waguespack (Steer Wrestling), Tacy Kay Webb (Breakaway Roping), and Ryan Jarrett (Tie-Down Roping).
The Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo begins with performance one at 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Dec. 15 and will continue nightly through the final performance on Saturday Dec 18. Eight athletes per discipline will go head-to-head in the long rounds (December 15-17) with the Top 2 rides/runs from each performance advancing to the Triple Crown of Rodeo performance on December 18.
